The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) begin their third season of play on Friday November 21st. Their schedule features several dates which have the time and date listed as TBD (to be determined). Those dates are earmarked as "PWHL Takeover Tour" dates, also known as neutral site games.
Possible 2025-26 PWHL Edmonton dates
Going through the PWHL schedule and cross-referencing it with Rogers Place availability (eliminating Oilers, Oil Kings, special events) and presuming at least one Canadian team will be in action, here is the list of possible Edmonton PWHL Takeover Dates. Side note: did not include an April date that listed Boston as the home team.
| Possible dates | Teams in Action |
| Wednesday December 17 | Montreal vs Toronto |
| Saturday, December 27 | Toronto vs Montreal OR Minnesota (2 time champs) vs Vancouver |
| Wednesday, April 1 | Toronto vs Ottawa |
| Tuesday, April 7 | Boston vs Vancouver |
Until it is official it is "if" the PWHL Takeover Tour comes to Edmonton but "when" it happens it will be either in December or April. Looking at the available dates the one Saturday option seems the most favourable.
There are fans who prefer weeknight games because not everyone works Monday to Friday jobs but weekday games do inhibit the pomp and circumstance that can be attached to the game like meet and greets and the such. True the first Saturday after Christmas may cost you some hockey families due to travel but being able to promote the game as the perfect Christmas gift exists. Keeping the game out of April when Stanley Cup fever tends to over-ride the City, also adds some shine to the December 27th game.
Edmonton Takeover 2024-25
Edmonton hosted a "Takeover Date" last season on Sunday February 16th at Rogers Place. The Ottawa Charge acted as the home team, which made sense with Bruderheim, Alberta's Emerance Maschmeyer being their starting goaltender. Side note: Maschmeyer was selected in the off-season expansion draft by Vancouver if you are new to the league and need a favourite player/team to root for. Their opponents that day were the Toronto Sceptres, who won in overtime. Below is the collage of the pregame and intemission scoreboard shots taken throughout the game. 17, 158 fans were in attendance!

2026-27 Expansion Rumors

Presumably PWHL Takeover number two in Edmonton once again draws over 17,000 strengthening its case for an expansion team in the league. Yes, dates at Rogers Place will see a fair share mid-week games but a gander through the PWHL confirms that is not an Edmonton specific issue. There absolutely is a world where the Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG) could manage three hockey teams plus have dates for concerts, special events and maybe even a lacrosse team.
Have your say, what persepective Takeover date do you hope to see?
