February 17th, 2022 it was announced that the Acheson, Alberta based company Myshak Group had purchased the naming rights to the new ballpark being built in Spruce Grove. The Myshak Metro Ballpark is scheduled to open on Saturday June 7th when the main tenants/owners host the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) defending champion Okotoks Dawgs.
On the corner of Pioneer Road and Highway 16A, the Ballpark is only 10 minutes off the Anthony Henday Drive. The main tenant will be the yet to be rebranded Edmonton Prospects Baseball Club. The Club has not made the announcement of their new name following their name the team online contest. Following their Facebook page, the name Spruce Grove Mets is one fans suggestion.
"Please note that due to overwhelming response, Loge Tables and Suites are now sold out for full season purchases however the schedule is now online and you can still buy single game or multi game and group purchases."
Humble beginnings at Red Willow Park in St. Albert and John Fry Park. Years of expected post Covid delays and unexpected delays such as bird migration season. The summer of 2025 promises to be a banner season for the organization. Informally speaking with the Director of Ticket Sales and Partnerships last season during games held in Sherwood Park, he could not hold back his excitement about moving into a new state-of-the-art home and the new gameday ideas the Club want to present.
The most famous Edmonton Prospect?
Before looking more into the future let's take a look back at who is arguably the most famous player to wear the soon to be retired Prospects monikered jersey. That player is Erik Sabrowski.
"When the playoffs rolled around that summer (2016), Sabrowski upped his batting average to .395, scored six runs and even stole a base during Edmonton’s 11-game postseason run to the WMBL championship final, which they lost to Swift Current. He pitched in three games, including two starts, that August and went 1-1 with a save, a 0.91 ERA and 16 Ks over 19.2 innings." Alberta Dugout Stories
Fast forward nearly eight years and two Tommy John Surgeries, Sabrowski pitched for the Cleveland Guardians against the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series.
Now we wait...
The new name and logo are coming soon. Player signings will begin to trickle in. Head Coach and Assistant General Manager Jordan Blundell was quoted prior to last season saying, "tough to be patient for the new stadium but we are just so grateful for the fun support and appreciative of our partners. This is the best job someone can have".
