Edmonton Sports Update: 4th Weekend of 2024

It's Wednesday, you know what that means! Welcome to another edition of the Edmonton Sports Update featuring a non-NHL look at sports news in the Capital City and suburbs...and folks things are happening!

AJHL, BCHL Controversy

"The British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) has announced that it has come to terms with five Alberta-based teams to join the league for the 2024-25 season.

The teams that have committed to terms include, the Blackfalds Bulldogs, Brooks Bandits, Okotoks Oilers, Sherwood Park Crusaders and Spruce Grove Saints." LINK

If the pattern of having the five departing teams only play against each other continues, one can predict the Crusaders game in Olds on Friday and the Saints game at Bonnyville on Friday and vs Lloydminster on Saturday will also be canceled. Keep your eyes and ears open on this developing situation.

Edmonton Oil Kings

The Oil Kings won one of three games on their recent homestand but each game scored during their Popeye's Chicken Minute sending fans home with free chicken. Losing with style amirite?

The Oil Kings play in Red Deer Friday night before returning to Rogers Place on Sunday to host the Brandon Wheat Kings. With tickets only $20 and kids combos for under $10, if somehow and some way you have not been inside Rogers Place yet or in a while, this is your best option.

Love Pro Wrestling

After performing at the Edmonton Oil Kings game last Saturday, Love Pro Wrestling (LPW) returns to its regular schedule.

On Thursday, The Clandestine Wrestling Society tag team with LPW to put on an always memorable show (and for only $10). On Friday, the spotlight shines on LPW 22 with limited tickets available (starting at $30). Both shows emanate out of the Rec Room South Edmonton Common. As an aside, the merchandise game is top notch so be prepared to buy a shirt!

Edmonton Stingers 2024 Home Schedule

Whether you're an "OG" and call it "the hive" or use the current nickname "the hangar", let's see how many times the Edmonton Stingers can sell out their spot in the Edmonton Expo Centre. Circle June 2nd on your calendars in ink!

Annual Edmonton Prospects Kids Camp

Centennial Park Diamond #9 will be the home park for the Edmonton Prospects when their 2024 season begins. If things go according to plan, the big move into the yet to built Myshak Park in Spruce Grove will happen at some point during the season.

The Prospects Kids Camp has been a tradition unofficially hovering around a decade. A google search pops up an Edmonton Journal story from 2016 and at that time they it's already referred to as the "annual Edmonton Prospects Kids Instructional Camp".

CJFL Commit Season

Whether you are an Edmonton Wildcat fan or Edmonton Huskies fan, tis the season for the Clubs to begin announcing their new players ahead of the 2024 season. The Wildcats Facebook page has already announced 7 players. The Huskies, entering their 70th year, have not announced any players as of yet but be sure to be following their Facebook page.
