Welcome everyone to your weekly Edmonton Sports Update focusing on teams outside the NHL. The City is pigeonholed as "just about Oil"...we are soo much more. Let's have a look.
Civil War - AJHL
How it started - the BCHL released a statement announcing 5 AJHL teams will be leaving the Alberta league to play in their BC league. How it's going...
What's so civil about war anyway?
Battle of Alberta - Version WHL
On Friday the Edmonton Oil Kings host the Calgary Hitmen. On Sunday, the Clubs have their rematch in Calgary. The Hitmen lead the season series 3-0 and are on a 5-game win streak versus our Oil Kings. Lets end that streak this weekend m'kay?
Real Canadian Wrestling (RCW)
How many wrestlers in the photo can you name? It doesn't matter how many names you know! The price is right for an evening of wrestling at the conveniently located Norwood Legion (literally next to Commonwealth Stadium). Food and bevy prices are also lower than you would expect adding to the value of making this your Saturday night out.
League1 Alberta - BTB Soccer Update
The above photos are taken from the season ticket holder e-mail blast. A season ticket to BTB Soccer, or any member Club in League1 AB, includes both the Men's and Women's Clubs. The BTB Women's Club struggled in 2023 collecting only 1 win. The Men's Club fell just two points shy during the slate of games of making the final.
The Club played home games last season at Clarke Field in Edmonton and Taurus Field in Fort Saskatchewan. Last season began May 12th. When the league announces the 2024 schedule, we will talk about it here.
Calendar of Events
Towards the end of May, Edmonton's sports scene becomes very busy. If you like to be outside you have the choice of two baseball clubs (Riverhawks and/or Prospects), Elks football, or League1 Alberta soccer (schedule still not released). If you prefer the indoors, you have Stingers basketball and the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (we will only be looking at the Jr A and Alberta Series Lacrosse levels). With these articles running on Wednesdays here is a look at a random week in June.
So much to look forward too! Until next week, stay safe everyone.
