Roil Recollection: Oil Kings History on October 30

Only two treats and no (hat)tricks on this Halloween Eve day in the Oil Kings modern history. Fun fact - the Oil Kings have never played a game on Halloween! Let's recollect the happenings on the 30th!

2007-08

Eight rounds into the shootout, Cameron Cepek finally earned the Oil Kings the extra point in this game in Lethbridge. Edmonton was down 3-1 in the first period but with four seconds remaining Brent Raedeke drew the team within one. Tomas Vincour tied the game in the second. Alex Archibald with 28 saves plus five unofficial saves in the shootout.

2009-10

Robin Soudek and Mark Pysyk scored third period goals to bring the Oil Kings to within one of the Saskatoon Blades. Saskatoon then scored goals thirteen seconds apart to thwart the completion of the comeback.

2010-11

Michael St. Croix scored both Oil Kings goals versus the Vancouver Giants. Despite outshooting the Giants by almost double, Edmonton would get doubled up in the scoring column. A byproduct of Vancouver scoring on four of their first eight shots.

2014-15

The backend of rare Wednesday-Thursday back-to-back had the Oil Kings in Seattle against Matthew Barzal and the Thunderbirds. Brett Pollock put the Edmonton on the scoreboard which already had a four up on the Seattle side. Ashton Sautner scored the other Oil Kings marker.

2021-22

Jalen Luypen scored two third period goals to force overtime in Red Deer. The Rebels 44th shot of the game won the affair for them. Sebastian Cossa with 40 saves on a night he watched his team commit nine penalties.

2022-23

Red Deer again but this time in Edmonton and with a much less favourable result. Carson Golder gave the Oil Kings a 2-1 lead in the first period but the Rebels scored six answered goals to spoil the pre-Halloween fun. Edmonton had twelve (12!) powerplay opportunties but only Golder was able to capitalize.

2024-25

Four first period goals gave the visiting Oil Kings more than enough to walk out of Spokane with the win. Of six different goal scorers, Cole Miller and Gracyn Sawchyn each also collected two assists. Alex Worthington made 25 saves in the victory.
