In their modern day history the Oil Kings have collected only one win on this day but by golly miss molly what a win it was! The snafu to this day is the propensity to allow six goals. Let's recollect!
2008-09
The Vancouver Giants, featuring soon-to-be NHL'ers Lance Bouma, Brendan Gallagher, and Evander Kane, came to Edmonton on a Wednesday night and had their way. The Oil Kings only managed ten shots in the duration of the game.
2010-11
Twice the Oil Kings responded to a Kamloops Blazers goal with a goal of their in a minute or less. Mike Piluso in the first period 37 seconds after the Blazers opened the scoring and Griffin Reinhart in the third period a minute after the opponents made 3-1. Cam Lanigan with 36 saves in the loss.
2017-18
The Spokane Chiefs won by scoring more goals than the Oil Kings. The Oil Kings did not score any goals and had to use both their goaltenders in the game.
2021-22

Five (5!) first period goals for the Oil Kings. Four (4!) more goals scored in the second period. Future Oil King Rylen Roersma was in on both Brandon Wheat Kings goals. Jaylen Luypen and Carter Souch each had two goals for Edmonton. Logan Dowhaniuk a hat-trick of assists. Luypen with has two assists and fight completed the "Gordie Howe" hat-trick.
Sebastian Cossa made 25 saves in the victory. Goaltending when your team is up 9-1 entering the third period must be mental challenge. So much of your job is based on pressure, there just is not that much pressure with that big of a lead.
2023-24
For the third time on this calendar date the Oil Kings allowed an opponent to score six goals. This time though, Edmonton scored a couple of their own goals! Roan Woodward and Rilen Kovacevic each scored helping the team go into the first intermission tied at two.
