Roil Recollection: Oil Kings History on October 20

Four of the six games on this date in the Oil Kings modern day history have required extra time to determine a winner. A stat that reads the same but is different, the Oil Kings have won four of the six games on this date. Let's recollect!

2007-08

This was the third time in the inaugural season the Oil Kings played the Ice. Edmonton still got a point but Kootenay got the win in the shootout. Brett Breitkreuz scored two third period goals, the second one with only 1:27 remaining to get the Oil Kings the point. The brightest star for the Club on this night was goalie Alex Archibald who stopped 42 of 45 shots.

2012-13

The dastardly Medicine Hat Tigers came to Edmonton and pounced out to a 2-0 lead after one. That's all the Tigers got past Laurent Brossoit as the Oil Kings scored the final four goals of the contest. Curtis Lazar had two goals and Keegan Lowe had two assists to lead the team to victory!

2013-14

This was the Oil Kings third game in three days and by golly they needed overtime to determine the winner. 41 seconds into the extra period Henrik Samuelsson won the game for the Oil Kings over the Kootenay Ice. Tristan Jarry collected the win.

2015-16

53 seconds into the second period the Saskatoon Blades took a 2-0 lead on the scoreboard and a 8-7 lead on the shot clock. Edmonton outshot them 31-8 through the rest of regulation time tying the game on goals by Brandon Baddock and Lane Bauer. The Blades would take the decision in overtime, which does not seem fair.

2017-18

Tomas Soustal scored a shorthanded penalty shot goal which served as good practice for his successful shootout attempt that ended up winning the game for the Oil Kings. Travis Child got the win.

2024-25

The discrepancy between the score clock and the shot goal suggests that the first Oil Kings player to mention is goaltender Alex Worthington who was credited with 42 saves. Then one must tip their helmet to the powerplay unit that scored a goal in each period played. Gracyn Sawchyn finished with 2 goals and an assist.
