Roil Recollection: Oil Kings History on October 18

The Oil Kings are in Prince Albert tonight. It is the first meeting between the two Clubs since their round one playoff battle that prematurely ended the '24-25 season for Edmonton. It is Edmonton's third game in the province of Saskatchewan this season, thus far the team is undefeated in that province.

Stories from this day in the modern history of the Club include a couple dominating performances against Red Deer and a redemption arc against Saskatoon. Let's recollect!

2009-10

Drew Nichol got into a scrap in this game. Depending on how long the fight went he may have thrown more shots on his opponent than the Oil Kings did on the Saskatoon Blades goaltender. Outshot 33-14, Edmonton lost 4-0. Torrie Jung with 29 saves in the loss.

2013-14

The Oil Kings completely dominated the Red Deer Rebels blanking them 4-0 whilst outshooting them 45-21. Curtis Lazar was in on all four markers with two goals and two assists. Tristan Jarry earned the shutout. This was still at a point in time when goaltenders who earned "stars" did not have their saves posted just their offensive stats - - which is funny but not haha funny.

2014-15

Blake Orban and Andrew Koep each had a pair of goals. Ashton Sautner and Brett Pollock each had a hat-trick of assists. The Oil Kings defeated the Saskatoon Blades 6-4 with Patrick Dea collecting the win.

2017-18

The Oil Kings lead the Royals 3-2 in the penalty department. The Royals lead the goal department 3-2. Travis Child faced 8 of his 43 shots against in overtime but was beat with 5 seconds remaining. Ty Gerla had tied the game 1:27 into the third period.

2019-20

Riley Sawchuk scored 1:56 into the game setting the tone for a dominant 5-1 Oil Kings win in Red Deer. Sawchuk, Jake Neighbours and Josh Williams each had two point nights. Sebastian Cossa with 21 saves in the win.
