Edmonton Stingers Gameday, Drive for Five

Edmonton!! Your Edmonton Stingers Basketball Club is 4-0 heading into tonight’s game at the Edmonton Expo Center at 7PM. The Stingers are the only remaining undefeated team in the Canadian Elite Basketball League. The drive for 5-0 goes through the Vancouver Bandits who come in with a record of 3-1.

Adika Peter-Mcneilly (#6) became the franchise leading scorer in the home opener last Sunday. Brody Clarke (#14) led the Club that night with 18 points and Edmonton's own Ben Krikke (#21) contributed 14 points and 6 rebounds off the bench.

Through the first four games Davion Warren (#3) leads the team with an average of 16.3 points per game. Second year Stinger Nick Hornsby (#11) leads the Club in average rebounds (8.0) and assists (6.3) per game.

The Edmonton Stingers experience is a budget friendly evening. Multiple food options under $5 and beer options at $5. The Stingers even feature free parking.

If Vancouver misses two consecutive free throws tonight, everyone in attendance scores a free Famous Star Burger at all Carl's Jr. locations!

Fan Testimony about the CEBL

Recently on Shotgun Sports we did an article discussing CEBL fandom (link) Here is an additional submission from local @kicksoda, the username on the unofficial league discord (link).

"I’ll thank my kids who finally showed an interest in local sports, we made it out to all the Elks games and then went on a “meet all the mascots” run and got out to Riverhawks and Stingers games too. I went to my first game completely ignorant of the Elam ending and was immediately hooked, we took in every game we could after the first one we went to and even drove down to Calgary for the playoffs last season. Reed Clarke approached us at that game, gave my kids some stickers and greeted us again on the way out (he’ll be missed, but that small interaction and seeing what was going with Fresh Nets and the community programs actually cemented my desire to get seasons tickets).

I won’t shut up about the league to family/friends and even made a stupid AI video for the team. I don’t want to linger on Reed too long, but going around to all the schools, repairing the nets, and tossing a Stingers sticker on each repair job was genius. I also think the team’s merchandise/concessions is priced ridiculously family friendly. Calgary’s success with their Saddledome game as well as taking in the Harlem Globetrotters this year really has me pining for a Stingers game at Rogers Place!

What's an "Elam Ending "?

Being unique is in Canadian Sports DNA. The CFL has the "rouge", the CEBL has the elam ending. First stoppage after the 4 minutes remaining mark, the clock is turned off. No one wants to watch a foul fest the rest of the way. A target score is set at 9 points ahead of the leading teams score. The game ends when a team hits the target score.

For example, if the Stingers are up 80-75 when elam time hits, the target score is set to 89. Now every shot matters as teams race to 89. Every game features a definitive game winning shot.
