"Surge to the Dome" is the advertising tag line ahead of tomorrow night's Edmonton Stingers season opener in Calgary. The tag line borne of the fact the Calgary Surge are hosting their home opener at the Calgary Saddledome. It is the first of three on the road before the Stingers come home for a 3-game homestand. You can watch the road games through the leagues free streaming service (CEBL+) or you have two listening options: English on edmontonsportstalk.com or in Punjabi on myradio580.com.
There are two Edmonton Stingers player names you will know if you have kept loose tabs on the Club since their 2019 inception. Brody Clarke, 54 GP averaging 12.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists, 22.8 minutes per game. Adika Peter-McNeilly, 70 GP averaging 10.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 22.5 minutes per game. Stats per www.thestingers.ca.
Elijah Miller and Nick Hornsby are both going into their second season in Edmonton. Hornsby led the team last year averaging 8.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. That fans, is all four of your returning 2023 roster players.
The Club brought in many talented faces from different places. If someone being local is key for you then you probably heard about and followed Ben Krikke's NCAA March Madness appearances. Canadians Jermaine Haley and Ryan Richmond, both with multiple international seasons of experience, look to begin their CEBL resume. Toronto born Mike Nuga joins the Stingers after spending the past two seasons with the Saskatchewan Rattlers. To view the Americans brought to town and the draft class, visit thestingers.ca.
Season Member Reception
After their season opener Tuesday, the Stingers roster will switch gears and be at the Wednesday night Season Member Reception. A fair question is "why buy season tickets". The answer is the chance to be a part of evenings like this. Post game autograph sessions are always fun but in this situation the players have more time to chat. Whether it be as the fan or the player, the atmosphere will be more laid back as you are not coming off the rush of a game.
When the June 2nd home opener finally arrives, the Stingers once again will be offering free parking at the Edmonton Expo Center. The Club is also bringing back value priced food and beer. With tickets starting at $20, you can literally spend an evening watching some damn good basketball and spend a grand total of $30. There is not a better deal in Edmonton.
