Busy season is almost here. We are now one calendar page flip away from the Canadian Football League, Canadian Elite Basketball League, Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League, League1 Alberta Soccer and two baseball leagues starting their seasons. But folks, there's still some amazing non-NHL hockey happening. Let's dive into the Edmonton Sports Update!
BCHL REPORT
Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Spiderman, Spidergwen, and Deadpool will all be attending the Sherwood Park Crusaders Superhero Night on Friday night hosting the Brooks Bandits. The Bandits stay in Sherwood Park for a rematch on Saturday night that ends the BCHL regular season.
For the first time in 21 days, the Spruce Grove Saints will play at home in Grant Fuhr Arena. The game against the Okotoks Oilers also marks their season finale. Okotoks will be looking to win to avoid playing the Saints in the 1st round of the playoffs.
A happy note to send off the Edmonton Oil Kings and a kudos to this city:
Edmonton Riverhawks
The Edmonton Riverhawks initial 2024 roster has arrived and it comes with various breakdowns cause in baseball there is a Stat for everything. In case you missed it, the team also gave you some news about their coaches:
Friday May 31st through Wednesday June 5th is the Hawks first home stand of the season playing out of Re/Max Field.
Edmonton Elks Lucky Number 20
On the topic of private ownership for the football club per 3downnation.com: "20 different people or parties that have signed non-disclosure agreements, so there’s a lot of interest".
To be a fly on the wall to hear how many of these offers center around the new stadium rumors, or what wrinkles each offer has to turn the Club’s financial fortunes around. No, it's not as "easy" as just winning games.
The above chart is from https://stats.cfldb.ca/. Interesting to note that during the EE 37 year playoff run spanning 1972-2005 there were peaks and valleys in the attendance. No matter the ownership group plan or scheme, attendance is the key stat. I'll be doing my part. Here's how you can do yours:
Go hit a bucket of balls
Ma Nature may have something to say about Green Acres opening this Friday but it's time to put this back on your bucket list (pun intended). As a non-golfer, an hour or two with a friend or two at the driving range is always a good time.
I hope your upcoming week is full of good times. Thanks for reading.
