While it looks like mid-January outside, the calendar has already given 9 exciting weeks of sports entertainment. Let's see what is happening this week in Edmonton outside the NHL scene.
Crusaders, Saints and Oil Kings oh my!
Aside from the Spruce Grove Saints hosting the Okotoks Oilers at the Grant Fuhr Arena on Saturday March 9th, the theme this week is road games. One of those road games has a twist though.
On Sunday March 10th, the Saints and Sherwood Park Crusaders will play a neutral site game in Nisku at the new Silent Ice Center. No need to worry about either team looking to move there as both Clubs have announced new arenas are forthcoming in their own respective communities.
The Oil Kings play in Swift Current, Prince Albert and Saskatoon this week. Their next home game is not until March 15th versus the Calgary Hitmen.
Edmonton Stingers Single Game Tickets on Sale
All ten Edmonton Stingers home games are now on sale on Ticketmaster. The Club sold out half their home games last season. It is a fair presumption the Sunday June 2nd home opener will sell out. See you there!
A case for private ownership- Edmonton Elks
Former football player Garrick Jones is heading up an effort to purchase the Edmonton Elks. Part of those efforts is getting fans to sign a petition.
The Edmonton Elks have publicly admitted they are looking at various ways to stay viable in these times including moving away from being community owned. As a fan of four decades, it never occurred to me that there was ever a risk of Edmonton losing their CFL team. Not sure what the "right answer" is but here's hoping it includes four more decades of football!

Kudos to the Edmonton Riverhawks
Story time: The year Edmonton hosted the NLL All-star game, the start time had to get moved up after the bulk of tickets were sold. The Club used their website, all available social media, printed media, television news and radio ads to convey the change to fans. Literally hundreds of fans arrived for the originally scheduled start time all explaining to the club how we failed to let them know.
Here's where the kudos come for the Riverhawks...one keeps noticing their quality social media posts. Keep up the fantastic work.
Edmonton Prospects Update
To be overly honest for a moment, 7 years of volunteering for the Edmonton Prospects means I refuse to allow them to get lost in the shuffle.
Modus Operandi in the Western Canadian Baseball League has been single game tickets going on sale in April. Currently the Prospects only ticket option their website is for the 2025 season opener in Spruce Grove.
Returning after a one year hiatus to play out of Centennial Field in Sherwood Park was not the plan but is the reality. Their home opener is Friday May 31st. First pitch 7:05 PM. Player announcements should begin rolling in soon. Stay tuned.
