There’s something about Saturdays and hockey that just seems so natural. Maybe it’s because many of us grew up watching Hockey Night in Canada, or maybe because we were spending our Saturdays out on the ice learning to skate and shoot after a long week at school, but in my early years I knew that Sunday was for football and Saturday was for Hockey. The crowd is louder, the energy is more intense, and every powerplay carries an extra shot of anticipation. Now, The Roil Line is going to take that excitement to a brand new level.
Welcome to Power Saturdays! This is a brand new contest we will be running all season long for every Saturday Oil Kings game. There are 18 Saturday games in the 2025-26 Oil Kings season, will one of them be your power play? Here’s how it works:
Each week, fans (That’s You!) can predict the exact time window that they think the Oil Kings will score a goal with the man advantage. Will it be an early powerplay in the first, to seize momentum? A timely second period momentum shift? Or maybe a late third period insurance marker to seal the victory?
Pick your moment in two-minute intervals (2:00-4:00 of the 1st, 12:00-14:00 of the 3rd, etc) and then watch and see if you have the clairvoyance to succeed. If the Oil Kings bury one while the clock is in your chosen time window, you’re in line for a prize.
And here’s the best part: prizes come from an incredible lineup of local partners, including Sweet Convenience, The Seven Eighty, Manual Labour Brewing Company, Time Escape, and Edmonton Cause Players. If multiple fans have the exact same time frame we’ll settle it the hockey way, by dropping the gloves, throwing aside our helmets, and running a random draw of the winning guesses.
How To Play
- First and Foremost, make sure you are following The Roil Line on your preferred social media platforms.
- Each Tuesday before a Saturday game, The Roil Line will share the Contest post across all of our social media accounts
- Fans can drop their guesses on Facebook, BlueSky, Instagram, or X under the official Power Saturday post for that game. One time entry per person per game.
- Guesses close at puck drop on game day, so make sure to get yours in before the opening faceoff.
Then all you need to do is sit back, cheer loud, and wait for that goal lamp to light up. When the Oil Kings cash-in on the powerplay, you just might cash in too.
The Oil Kings powerplay has delivered numerous iconic moments over the years, from Teddy Bear Toss goals to playoff daggers. Now with The Roil Line and Power Saturdays, every fan has a chance to make those man advantage goals just a touch sweeter.
