The number 6 has four NHL drafted selected defensemen in the group. This group features the team's first captain and a multi year assistant captain. The number also includes someone that reminds everyone that hockey is for everyone. Let's recollect!
2007-08
The first captain of the modern day Edmonton Oil Kings Bretton Stamler wore number 6. His two assists, including the one on the game winning goal, in the inaugural game made him the first Oil King to have a multipoint game. Stamler's only Oil King goal came on January 6th just ahead of the trade deadline that saw him traded to the Swift Current Broncos. Stamler was a 7th round draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings.
2008-09

The above snip was Ryan Dech's one game wearing the number 6 for the Oil Kings. He did not collect a point.
2009-10 and 2010-11

Braeden Laroque played three games as number 23 in '08-09 then switched to number 6. Laroque collected 8 points in 120 games before being traded a week into the '11-12 season to the Seattle Thunderbirds.
2011-12

Above is the statline for Ryan Aasman's 4 games as an Oil King. He played most of that season with the Spruce Grove Saints, then of the AJHL.
2012-13

The 2011 2nd round draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers was traded to the Oil Kings from the Vancouver Giants on Halloween 2012. The defenceman registered 23 points in 48 regular season games and added 6 points in 22 playoffs games. David Musil's brief NHL career game log is posted above.
2013-14
Stephen Schmoorkoff's major junior career started with the Sherwood Park Crusaders in 2010-11 and ended with the Crusaders in 2014-15. The defenseman wore #26 in '12-13 with Oil Kings switching to #6 in '13-14. He would only wear it for 16 games before being traded to Swift Current.
2013-14 to 2015-16
Chance Patterson played parts of three seasons for the Oil Kings and finished with 58 games played. His one career goal was on October 24, 2015 versus Lethbridge. His one career assist was on February 24th, 2016 versus Portland. Chance finished his major junior career in the SJHL.
2016-17 to 2019-20

Wyatt McLeod played four seasons for the Oil Kings wearing the assistant captain A on his chest for the last two. McLeod was traded to the Saskatoon Blades for this final year of WHL action. He was a member of the Kelly Cup Championship winning Trois-Rivieres Lions of ECHL last season.
2021-22

The Nashville Predators 2020 third round draft pick Luke Prokop was traded to Edmonton just after (Canadian) Thanksgiving 2021 from the Calgary Hitmen. Prokop scored two goals in his debut game for the Oil Kings. Almost three months prior to the acquistion, Prokop tested the mantra that "Hockey is for Everyone" by publicly coming out as gay. We at The Roil Line believe hockey is for everyone, that the hockey rink is big enough for all of us to either play and cheer for our favourite sport.
Prokop was co-winner of the Humanitarian of the Year Oil Kings Award. He finished the regular season with 35 points in 58 appearances. As a defenceman he averaged just under a point per game in the playoffs finishing with 16 points in 19 games. His 12 assists tied the Oil Kings single season playoff record. Luke's rights were traded to Seattle in October 2022.
2022-23 to current

The 2024 6th round draft pick of the Vancouver Canucks, Parker Alcos is returning to the Oil Kings for his fourth season. Alcos has scored one goal in each of the last two seasons, New Years day '23-24 and January 3rd '24-25. Can the defenseman who is much more comfortable on his side of the blue line score a goal this season before the calendar page turns?
