The Mayan Calendar was misinterpreted to have read that the world would end in 2012. For fans of the Double E, then General Manager Eric Tillman brought doom much sooner than the Mayan's suggested date of December 21st. On May 12th, franchise quaterback Ricky Ray was traded for a kicker! Okay, the return also included QB Steven Jyles and a 1st round pick but this was (and still is) widely agreed upon to be one of the worst trades in CFL trades history! Ray's Argos defeated Edmonton in the Divisional Semi's and went on to win the Grey Cup that season.

This NHL trade started the news broadcasts for CTV, CBC and ITV (now global). TSN was barely four years old when this trade happened so unlike nowadays, their was no widespread specualtion of a move. Wayne Gretzky had been traded to the Los Angeles Kings. The City of Edmonton was still celebrating its fourth Stanley Cup in five years. Oiler fans with legitimate reasons to believe the team would keep collecting Cups for the foreseeable future until the unthinkable happened. Yes, the Oilers did go on to win another Stanley Cup while Gretzky did not but he was ours damnit!

I WANT TACOS!

Prior to this Saturday's Edmonton Elks game, the tailgate will have a little extra fiesta to it as it will feature a taco competition.10 tailgaters will be featured in this taco-bration at 11am at Stall 138. Wait, you haven't been a tailgate yet?

If you are someone who uses the LRT to attend games, cross the streets at the lights by the Rec Center. Pop into and through the Commonwealth Rec (walk toward the fieldhouse, you will see various bouncy castles). When you are back outside you will already see, hear and smell the festivities. Our friends The Elks Herd are stall 182 which from this point of entry is row two. Scout and Katherine can point you in the directon of stall 138. If you miss the Taco Competition, there is soo much else to do at the tailgate like checking out the band, visiting booths such as Spirit of Edmonton, Edmonton Huskies Alumni, Edmonton Sports Talk and soo many more.

I would not trade the tailgate experience for anything.
