"There is no man living who isn't capable of doing more than he thinks he can do" Henry Ford
Edmonton Elks fans have been razzled, dazzled and intrigued by Tre Ford since his first start back on Canada Day 2022. For those who don't recall, Ford led the team in rushing yards that game and threw a 4th quarter touchdown pass to spark a comeback victory. Ford injured his collarbone the next game not playing again until the season finale. Elks fans definitely wanted to see more but it did not happen right away.
Stalls Leave Fans Jonesing
The youngster did not see his first game action in 2023 until August 11th. The next week Ford would lead the Club to their first victory since September 2022. Then fueled by his first career 300+ plus yard passing game, the Elks finally broke the home losing curse. Despite finishing the season on a 4-game losing streak, the belief among the Elks fan base was Ford was our starting quarterback.
Then the EE added MBT and 2024 quickly became the season of chagrin. Fans believing Ford can do more than management seemingly believed he was capable of doing was the common refrain. "We want Tre" voiced online and at Commonwealth Stadium.
Hop In, Going for a Drive
"Today marks the beginning of Tre Ford’s opportunity to take the reigns as the starting quarterback of this franchise. He has expressed the desire to compete for this opportunity since his arrival in Edmonton and will be given the chance to do so for the Green and Gold. We believe in his potential and are excited to see what he can become for this organization and city over the next three seasons.” Elks VP of Football Operations and General Manager Ed Hervey via goelks.com.
The collective "we" have been granted our wish!
" I swear I’ve been the president of the Tre fan club! Just another move in the last few weeks that makes sense! He wins and puts bums in the seats!" Chris Sheetz via X.
An exciting time to be a fan of the Green and Gold. As Christmas approaches football fans now have visions of a winning record, a playoff date, and some positive word association with the moniker Elks. Lets friggin go!
