Starting to do things for the last time, Edmonton Oil Kings chatter

The Edmonton Oil Kings are down to their final 8 regular season games of the 2024-25 season. 6 of those games are at Rogers Place and 7 of those games are against different opponents.

First up is their (presumably) final "Wiener Wednesday" of the season. Presumably because the Club's other Wednesday game is their "Hockey Hooky" game played at 11am on the 12th.

The Brandon Wheat Kings and their 3-0 record versus the Oil Kings are the visitors. Edmonton managed 47(!) shots against Brandon in their last matchup but only managed one goal. The Oil Kings have only managed one goal scored in each of the three meetings thus far.

Brandon currently sits 5th in the Eastern Conference with the chance to leapfrog into second over their divisional rival Prince Albert. Edmonton currently sits one point ahead of Saskatoon but the Blades have two games in hand. That means Edmonton falling to seventh is a plausible reality.

The above paragraph is a long way of saying this could be a first round preview and the Oil Kings really need to find a way to score a second goal.

The Kelowna Rockets return to Edmonton for the first time since February 24, 2023. The highlight of that evening being the return of former Oil King Carson Golder who was presented his championship ring. Today's version of the Rockets is not good, bottom of the Western Conference in fact. Let's pull out the dreaded air quotes and put them around the words, "this is a should win, must win game". Always be leery of words in quotations.

This is the last Friday night game of the season at Rogers.

The home team has won each meeting between the Swift Current Broncos and Edmonton Oil Kings. Fans in attendance on Sunday wish for this trend to stay intact. In their last meeting at Rogers Place Landon Hanson, Gracyn Sawchyn and Marshall Finnie each scored two goals.

At press time the Broncos sit only 6 points behind the Oil Kings with two games in hand. It is not unthinkable that Swift can pass Edmonton in the standings. A win here by Edmonton would go a long way in preventing that from happening.
