14 days until a hockey team determines your mood for the next 5-6 months. Edmonton Oil Kings fans will have someone new wearing the number 14 this season. Let's answer the burning question in the back of your mind: other than Marshall Finnie (Niagara University), who else has worn sweater number 14?
2007-08
Brennan Sonne, yes the former coach of the Saskatoon Blades, was the first to wear the number 14 for Edmonton. Sonne was an assistant captain for the expansion team after being acquired at the trade deadline.
2008-09 through 2011-12
Colton Stephenson is credited with wearing this jersey number for five seasons. Unfortunately, he only appeared in four of those seasons managing to compile just 70 games onto his resume due to concussion problems. His little brother Chandler is a Stanley Cup winner in the NHL.
2012-13
Brandon Ralph wore the number 14 for his one and only game this season. Ralph would switch to number 17 - the Roil Recollection Number 17 article has more on him.
2013-14

Riley Kieser was added to the Oil Kings labeled as a "glue guy" as evidenced by the "A" on his jersey. The Memorial Cup win was just a precursor to the success he enjoyed in hockey. In five years with the U of A Golden Bears, Kieser accumulated four Canada West titles, and two national titles while holding down Academic All-Canadian standing the entire time.
2014-15 & 2015-16
Magnes Garan switched to number 14 after his 5-game audition in the previous season. The Edmontonian amassed 6 points in his 61 games before being traded to Seattle at the trade deadline.
2016-17 & 2017-18
Davis Murray put together a promising rookie season with 11 points and 99 penalty minutes. The Sherwood Park spent some time with the Sherwood Park Crusaders before finishing out his major junior career in the BCHL.
2018-19

Quinn Benjafield was acquired via trade from the Kamloops Blazers to play his last season of WHL eligibility with the Oil Kings. Benjafield hit the 300 game milestone on route to his best statistical season finishing with 54 points. Quinn is still tied for the Oil Kings record of most shorthanded goals in a season with 4.
2019-20 through 2021-22
Josh Williams came to Edmonton via trade from the Medicine Hat Tigers in January 2019 and sported the number 34. Going into his first full season with the Oil Kings he switched to number 14. Williams amassed 176 points in 178 regular season games played. He is the answer to the trivia question "who scored the first playoff goal at Rogers Place".
2022-23 through 2024-25

The definition of a player you know you would dislike if he played on another team, the agitator Marshall Finnie won the hearts of Oil Kings fans. He also won the Oil Kings 2022-23 Unsung Hero Award and 2024-25 Humanitarian of the Year Award. Finnie was suspended on four separate occasions during his senior year so it is fair to say he came across his 348 career penalty minutes honestly. Marshall broke the 20-goal milestone in the 2023-24 season.
