Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13. For those Oil Kings fans with this fear, the end of this article reaffirms those fears. Paraskevidekatriaphobia is the fear of the Friday the 13th. There is one only Friday the 13th on the schedule, ironically the day before Valentines. Throughout the modern day history of the Club, how many players have showed they do not have this phobia and worn the "jinxed" number?
2010-11
Year four was the first time in franchise history a player bravely wore the number 13. Puck moving Czech defenseman Marek Hrbas wore it for 64 regular season and 4 playoff games. He was traded to the Kamloops Blazers during the offseason.
2011-12 to 2015-16

There is delicious irony in a player who wore number 13 being drafted by a team called the Devils. Brandon Baddock played his entire 256 game WHL career with the Oil Kings. The 6'4" Vermillion native finished with 104 points and 480 penalty minutes. His penalty total still stands a career team record for the Club. Number 13 got an assist on the Teddy Bear toss Goal in '13.
2016-17 & 2017-18

Nick Bowman played his first two seasons in the WHL in Edmonton. His hockey card shows a pair of 7's and a 6's in his years in Edmonton. 7+6 equals 13. His hockey should show that he scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal in '16-17.
2018-19
Kobe Verbicky played two games for the Oil Kings. Verbicky played in the BCHL in '19-20. He returned to the Oil Kings for the 2021-22 season pulling on a sweater with a different number.
2019-20

After four years with the Tri-City Americans, Riley Sawchuk wanted to play closer to home and was traded to Edmonton. Sawchuk flourished with the Oil Kings exploding for a career high 25 goals and 51 assists which led the Club that season.
2020-21
Caleb Reimer played 19 games for the Oil Kings. On August 22nd, 2021 the Oil Kings announced that Reimer, at only 16 years old, had passed away. No other player has worn the number since.
