For their 2026 home opening weekend the Rocket City Trash Pandas hosted the Biloxi Shuckers for a three-game series.

This series delivered a weekend of competitive baseball and fun theme nights; showcasing the full spectacle that has come to define the atmosphere of Toyota Field. Both teams came into the weekend looking to gain early momentum in the standings of the Southern League. The Shuckers, who finished second in league standings in 2025 and topped the league in runs scored and home runs, tested Rocket City’s lineup throughout the weekend.
Friday, April 3rd- Take Us Back to the Ball Game
A near capacity crowd welcomed the Rocket City Trash Pandas for the first home game of the season. The evening began with the National Anthem and featured a new red and white flare display, which will appear at every game during this period.

A flyover by the Airforce intensified the moment for everyone.
Finally, it was time to play ball. In the first inning it appeared that Rocket City found the momentum, scoring two runs early. From the top of the second through the top of the eighth the Shuckers continuously applied pressure to Rocket City’s defense, scoring six runs. Going to the bottom of the eighth, the outcome looked bleak for the beloved Pandas, however, fans learned they can never count them out early.
Down by four the first batter for the Pandas stepped up to the plate. Through a combination of walks and timely hits the Trash Pandas made a miraculous comeback to bring the game to a tie going into the ninth.

Both teams displayed excellent defense in the ninth, forcing the game into extra innings. Ultimately, in the tenth the Shuckers would score the winning run. This result underscored how evenly matched these two teams appear to be this season.

Saturday, April 4th- The Trash Pandas Say, “Imgonnagetyouback” to the Shuckers
In a theme night that tipped its hat to Taylor Swift the Trash Pandas embraced their era. Saturday night started with a pregame concert by Paul Sidoti, lead guitarist and vocalist for Taylor Swift. The video board repeatedly featured nods to the artist, including Sprocket parodies of her thirteen album covers and Shuckers batter photos swapped for alleged ex-boyfriends.

After the ceremonial pitch by Paul Sidoti, both teams locked in for a game that shifted the tempo of the weekend.
In the first inning Biloxi scored their first run, but the Trash Pandas responded with one of their most complete performances of the weekend so far.
From the first inning to the fifth inning the Pandas showcased improved situational hitting and sharper defensive execution leading to them scoring nine runs and holding the Biloxi Shuckers at one.

In addition to the Pandas’ improved defense, the pitching staff appeared to have found its grove limiting Biloxi’s scoring opportunities only allowing them to score three more runs. This win for the Trash Pandas tied the weekend series and increased the importance of Sundays game for both teams.

Sunday, April 5th- Never Let Them Forget Who They Played This Weekend
Sunday afternoon, both teams showed signs of adjustment, with hitters becoming more selective. This series finally delivered the most dramatic finish of the weekend.

Biloxi built an early two run lead in the first, but Rocket City had the answer in the third, scoring five runs attributed to strategic and skilled hitting.
Moving into the fifth, fans were on the edge of their seats. In the top of the fifth, Biloxi added two runs to the board with a homerun on a fly ball to left center field that forced a second runner on base home cutting the deficit to 4-5.Determined not to allow Biloxi to tie or overcome them, the Trash Pandas pressured the Shuckers’ defense throughout the bottom of the fifth with steady timely hits the Pandas extended their lead by three.
Throughout the remainder of the matchup the Pandas allowed Biloxi only four more runs, finishing out the weekend series with a close win over the Shuckers.

A New Fan Was Created This Weekend- End of Series Thoughts
The 2-1 series win for the Rocket City Trash Pandas highlighted promise for this season and areas for refinement. On Saturday and Sunday, we saw the Pandas repeatedly create and capitalize on opportunities. The offense showed the strong ability to produce in bursts, particularly on Saturday, while the pitching staff and defense demonstrated the ability to withstand pressure and maintain leads.
Beyond the results of the games, the weekend reinforced the reputation of Toyota Field as an extremely fan friendly, family-oriented stadium. Post game fireworks on Friday and Saturday had families staying to enjoy the show. On Sunday there was a pregame autograph session and post-game easter egg hunt that engaged the community resulting in more families attending. The strong attendance at the field is encouraged by constant fan engagement and a lively in-game presentation.

This weekend marked a successful return of Baseball to Rocket City and set the tone of excitement for the season ahead.
