Hitmen, Princesses and Hurricanes – Let’s Go Oil Kings

The Edmonton Oil Kings have played 12 games in the calendar year 2025. The team has won 7 of those games and collected another point in an overtime loss. Pretty good right? The latest of those wins, a 5-1 victory on Wrestling Night at Rogers over the Moose Jaw Warriors, was a dominating performance!

Division and conference leading Medicine Hat are on a 9-game win streak, Calgary has already won 10 games in '25, while Lethbridge - after being handed back-to-back losses by the Oil Kings - rattled off a 9-game win streak of their own. The Hurricanes defeated the Oil Kings last Sunday creating a 7 point gap in the standings.

Before the organization welcomes the Moose Jaw Warriors back on February 8th, the Club faces the Calgary Hitmen 3 times (only game at Rogers is on January 31st) and the Hurricanes again. If one of these two teams becomes who the Oil Kings face in the first round of the playoffs, these next two weeks are the Clubs chance to steer destiny.

The Week that was

The 5-1 win versus Moose Jaw included the Oil Kings holding the Warriors to only 2 shots in the first period and 4 shots in the second period. Miroslav Holinka and Adam Jecho had themselves great games seemingly creating excitement every shift.

The 2-1 loss versus Lethbridge stings as the Hurricanes were playing their third game in three nights and definitely seemed to be out of gas in the third period. Rylen Roersma got the star in the game but linemate Cole Miller did everything but score.

What's on tap

A home-and-home with the red hot Calgary Hitmen. Speaking of red hot, Oil King Lukas Sawchyn had his 10-game point streak snapped last Sunday. He will look to collect his first point in four tries against Calgary. Adam Jecho, who missed the January 1st game due to the World Juniors, had a point in each of the previous matchups with the Hitmen this season. The home game on Friday has the fan promotion of "princess night". Anytime you get to dress up in costume, do it! It keeps you young.

The season series between the Oil Kings and Hurricanes sits at 3-2 for Lethbridge. There are 8 scheduled meetings between the Clubs. A victory here keeps hopes of beginning the playoffs at home alive.
