Edmonton Sports Update: Second Weekend of 2024

Hello out there, we're on the internet, it's the Edmonton Sports Update. Tension grows, the weather's damn cold, get out of the house anyway and enjoy these live non-NHL events in the City and Suburbs.

Hockey Happenings

The Spruce Grove Saints start off the hockey happenings tonight in front of a home crowd that last saw them shellack the Oil Barons 7-0. The Saints then go on a 5-game road trip.

The Edmonton Oil Kings play their first home game of 2024 on Thursday night. Then on Sunday the King in Oil Kings gets emphasized as Elvis will (presumably) be in the building. Question is, does he wear blue suede skates? Don't be cruel!

The 6th ranked team in the CJHL will host the 2nd ranked team on Saturday when the Sherwood Park Crusaders host the Brooks Bandits. The Cru then play the team currently ranked last in the AJHL on Sunday when Olds comes to town.

Follow the screams Edmonton

Need a little nudge to check out the local wrestling scene? Real Canadian Wrestling (RCW) are bringing in Erick Rowan aka Erick Redbeard aka Joseph Rudd for their Sunday night show. The other fellow in the photo is "Nasty" Nate Nixon, a staple of the Alberta wrestling scene. Soon you could find yourself purchasing tickets to a RCW show just to watch him perform.

Looking Ahead to Road Trips

Our Edmonton Stingers will be providing the competition for the Calgary Surge when they play their one game out of the Saddledome. Last year the Stingers did a bus to Calgary, one presumes this may warrant another bus trip. As of this publishing the CEBL still has not released their full schedule. Definitely will delve into that once it is released.

A road trip already penciled in the calendar is Friday May 31st out to Sylvan Lake to watch baseball at Pogadl Park. The Gulls opponent that night is the returning from a year off Edmonton Prospects.

Another road trip penciled into the calendar is Friday June 7th. A drive down to McMahon Stadium to watch the home opener for the Calgary Stampeders. Definitely back in time for the Elks home opener on the 8th.

Be sure to tune tonight to the Elks Call as Scout and Katherine talk about what was a very eventful week in offseason football. Until next week, stay warm!
