A long weekend for not enough of us, in a month that is a day too long this year. Need an affordable night out? Let's see what the Edmonton Sports Update has on tap for us all as we look to create some new memories this Family Day weekend.
BCHL aka Crusaders and Saints Update
The Sherwood Park Crusaders host the Spruce Grove Saints on Saturday February 17th. Supporting Operation Friendship Seniors Society (OFSS.org), fans are being asked to donate new underwear for this charity initiative. Captain Commando and Long John Jimmy will be on hand to help out with the ceremonial puck drop.
Off script, never mind sharing the article, download that picture and share it using #OperationUndies so even non-hockey fans can help out the OFSS in reaching their goals.
Back on script, the Crusaders play at home again on Family Day and all fans are invited to participate in the post game skate with the players. If you don't have skates, a red carpet will be rolled onto the ice allowing you to bring yourself and/or your youngsters to take pictures with the Crusaders.
Edmonton Oil Kings
After an everything but fun 6-game road trip, the Edmonton Oil Kings return to Rogers Place on Saturday February 17th. It's "Superhero Night" so they will look to draw strength from the legions of fans dressed up as their favourite DC Comic or Marvel character. For frugal parents, it's an opportunity for their youngster to wear their Halloween costume a second time.
The Oil Kings also offer you the option for a Family Day game as the Medicine Hat Tigers visit town. If you dress up as SpongeBob SquarePants, please tag us. Game time is at 2 o'clock.
CFL Fans Fight Cancer Event
Having met Andrew and Superfan Mike several times at Edmonton Elks tailgates, I can assure any party they host will create positive memories. The undertone to this meeting is serious as it is a joint effort by Canadian Football League fan bases across Canada to raise funds to help fight Cancer.
1st Round allows you to put a fried egg on any sandwich, so if you're just looking for supper idea, keep that in mind. "Janelle Bakes" has also committed to bringing in cupcakes, she's known for her boozy cupcakes at Elks tailgates.
Help fight cancer. Eat good food. Share a few laughs. That's a fan-tastic Saturday night!
If you can’t be there, here's a way to donate to the event...
Real Canadian Wrestling Event
Friday February 16th, RCW returns to their Edmonton home base of the Norwood Legion. The presentation of these shows harkens back to the days of Stampede Wrestling. The focus is the wrestling. "Real Talk" Dean Richtor and Mitch Clarke (the male wrestlers in the corners) embody that old school train of thought.
UIAA Ice Climbing World Championships
Beginning this Friday with opening ceremonies beginning at 6 PM at Ford Hall, the competition begins Saturday at the Ice District Fan Park. The event also features "vendors and exhibitors in our winter market, skating, ...friendly races with ice climbing equipment, ...kids zone, ...fatbiking, ...live performances by local artists".

League1 Alberta - Impact make Impactful Signing
For those of you that still miss FC Edmonton, one of the last ones standing makes his return to the greater Edmonton area signing with Impact FC of League1 Alberta.
Last season League1 run an exhibition series that was so successful, the league has expanded for the 2024 season. The province's pro-am soccer league (male and female), the St. Albert based Impact finished second place last season. Tboy Fayia definitely can be the piece to help the Club win that final game.
