Edmonton Elks Hunted At Home By Hamilton Tiger-Cats

On a hot summer night in Edmonton Alberta, the weather felt right for midsummer football. That is, until the Edmonton Elks floundered their way to another loss in front of their home crowd at Commonwealth Stadium. But at least we have the Tailgate Party, right?

TAILGATE REPORT

As Lieutenant Eric of Edmonton Sports Talk exclaims, the Tailgate Party is undefeated no matter the results on the field. Becoming the ultimate event before the game, the Tailgate Party saw what seemed to be a record attendance this season. We even ran out of smoked sausages at our latest Herdy's Pop-Up, over 50 servings handed out to our fellow fans. Alumni, local media and fans combine to create a community that really is bigger than football. Upon entering Commonwealth Stadium we noticed fans still having fun in their stalls as the team introductions commenced, indicating the true nature of tailgating taking form right here in farthest city from an NFL team.

THE FAN SIDE

The latest performance of the 2024 Edmonton Elks was the toughest to watch as a fan. The offense sputtered, the defense couldn't stop the run and even special teams found multiple mishaps despite a rebound performance from kicker Boris Bede. We've said this team can't seem to click on all 3 phases in the past, and the game against Hamilton proved exactly that and more. There was no hope of a win halfway through the 3rd quarter which, shows regression of a team that lost the previous 6 games by less than a score or two.

ON A POSTIVE NOTE...

Tre Ford came in for what most would consider "Garbage Time", the last 10 minutes of an unwinnable game, to put on a show for the fans that remained in their seats. With his classic Ford run-and-gun style, Tre was able to score 3 touchdowns on 3 drives, earning fans Free Burgers and a glimmer of hope for their upcoming game against one of the best teams in the west. Since the loss, the Elks have stated that Ford will be starting at quarterback in Saturday's contest against the Roughriders, giving fans a reason to watch the team even though the chances of a win seem bleak.

NEXT UP: EDMONTON ELKS @ SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will be hosting the struggling Elks at Mosaic Stadium on August 4th, and while the Elks will be considered the heavy underdogs in another "David and Goliath" match up, all eyes will be on Tre Ford to save the Elks from an 0-8 start to this season.
