Checking in on the Sherwood Park Crusaders

Hockey in Northern Alberta is known as Oil Country. Teams without the word "Oil" in their name, shout out to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, struggle grabbing headlines that are seen outside their fanbase.

The last news you may have seen on the Sherwood Park Crusaders was Jeremy Loranger (Columbus Blue Jackets) and Kale Dach (Pittsburgh Penguins) being selected in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Possibly, the last time you heard the Crusaders focused on by "main stream news outlets" was just over two years ago when they were one of five Clubs that left Hockey Canada, although it was generally framed as they left the Alberta Junior Hockey League, to join the BCHL.

The Crusaders Today

The Cru sit 4th in their division, one point behind Spruce Grove with one game in hand. Currently on a 2-game win streak after snapping a 5-game losing streak which had snapped a 4-game win streak. While the team has been streaky, Forward Joseph Sinclair has been a source of consistency collecting 50 points in 41 games played, good for 8th overall in the league. Defensemen Erik Kald and Stevie Grumley sit third and fourth respectively in the league for points by d-men.

The Crusaders are heading into a tough weekend on the road facing the Trail Smoke Eaters then the league leading (by winning percentage) West Kelowna Warriors.

Good Vibes

The Crusaders and Sherwood Park's Council announced positive news on the new arena project. The marketing department scored tickets to one of the hottest events of the year to raffle off. The Club recently showed off their community spirit helping raise funds for Ethan Berry, who suffered a life changing injury playing hockey, and the spirits of his family whom they invited to their Family Day game. And for fun, they are doing a "celebrity server" event at Boston Pizza.
