The Birmingham Squadron played host to an open tryout on Saturday, drawing dozens of prospects, each one dreaming of an opportunity to receive an invite to training camp for the 2025-26 season. The Squadron, NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, are set to open training camp on October 27. The 2025-26 campaign will mark the Squadron’s fifth season in the Magic City. Yesterday’s tryout protocol consisted of individual and group drills overseen by team coaches, followed by spirited scrimmages involving teams which were divided by Squadron personnel. The action was fast paced and lively, as individual players showcased their abilities, each one hoping to draw interest, and ultimately that ticket to training camp. On hand were head coach Joe Barrer and Alex Kaufman, General Manager of Basketball Operations, each named to their posts last week. The Squadron look to improve on last season, where they posted a 12-22 regular season record, one game ahead of cellar dwelling Windy City in the East.
