Roil Recollection: Oil Kings History on September 29th

The Edmonton Oil Kings have played on this date in their modern day history seven times. Two games needed extra time, one game featured a combined 13 goals. Let's recollect!

2010-11

Wednesday in Prince Albert started with the Oil Kings dominating the first period scoring two goals on 19 shots. Jordan Hickmott opening the scoring with Dylan Wruck scoring the next two goals staking the Edmonton to a 3-0. The shutout bid for Cam Lanigan was dashed with 6:29 remaining. Curse you Brandon Herrod! Lanigan finished with 36 saves.

2013-14

This was the fourth and final game of the season opening homestand that ending up with a .500 record. The shot clock read 42-21 in favour of Edmonton but the score clock read 5-3 in favour of Lethbridge. Tristan Jarry struggled in the third period allowing three goals on eight shots. Two of those goals were five (5!) seconds apart.

2017-18

Lethbridge opened the scoring. Will Warm, Nick Bowman (x2), and Colton Kehler paced the Oil Kings to a 4-1 lead. Lethbridge came all the way back to take a 5-4 lead. Trey Fix-Wolansky, Scott Atkinson, and Kehler restored the Oil Kings to 7-5. Edmonton held on to win 7-6.

Fun fact, the Hurricanes goaltender was current Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner. Travis Child made 25 saves collecting the win.

2018-19

46 minutes into this game, the Oil Kings held a 4-0 lead at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Calgary scored twice to cut the lead in the half. In the midst of being outshot 21-4 in the final period, Carter Souch scored his second of the game to give back some extra breathing room. Dylan Myskiw finished with 41 saves for the win.

2019-20

Riley Sawchuk scored with 22 seconds remaining in the second period to tie the game at two. Late penalties to Brendan Kuny and Jalen Luypen resulted in powerplay goals against. Todd Scott finished with 25 saves in the loss.

2022-23

The Regina Pats visited on this Thursday night drawing 3922 fans, some of which were there to see the much ballyhooed prospect Connor Bedard. Those fans left happy as Bedard scored the game opening and the game winning goal in overtime.

Gavin Hodnett had himself a night for the Oil Kings collecting assists on all three goals. Kolby Hay made 33 saves in the loss.

2023-24

The Oil Kings scored an even strength (Nathan PIlling), Shorthanded (John Szabo), and Powerplay (PIlling) goal. Despite six shots in overtime, Edmonton could not score an OT goal. Lethbridge won the game in a shootout. Kolby Hay made 30 saves in the loss.
