It has been over a decade since the Edmonton Oil Kings have played on the calendar day September 25. Let's recollect how the Club fared the five teams they have played! We wil even mention the unmentionable games.
2007-08

A Tuesday night in Red Deer marked the first ever loss in Oil Kings modern day history. It was a tough first period being outshot 11-3 but netminder Dalyn Flette was only beat once. 1:13 into the second period Brett Breitkreuz scored on the powerplay tying the game at one. Brent Raedeke, on the powerplay, and Cameron Cepak, with only 1:10 remaining, scored in the third period to send the game to overtime.
The shots in the extra period favoured Red Deer 3-2 but a shootout was required to determine the winner. So the first ever loss for the Oil Kings was also the first ever shootout.
2009-10

Game three of the regular season was win number one for the Oil Kings. It only took the Club 1:02 to take a lead in Saskatoon as Brent Raedeke silenced the crowd. Devin Balness made it 2-0 but the Blades came back to tie the game at two.
Tyler Hlookoff scored the eventual game winner at the 7:38 mark of the third period. A very busy Torrie Jung made 36 saves in the victory.
2010-11
Game two of the season the Red Deer side of the home-and-home series. It did not go well. The Oil Kings lost 8-1. And we will never talk about this game again.
2011-12

This was the season opener for the Club on the road in Red Deer. The team started hot outshooting the Rebels 15-9 and outscoring them 2-1 in the first period. At the 2:32 mark of the second period Martin Gernat gave the Oil Kings a 3-1 lead then penalty trouble kicked in.
From the 5:29 mark to the 16:21 mark Edmonton almost always had a man (or two) in the penalty box. By the time the teams were even strength, the game was tied. Laurent Brossoit made 12 saves in the period, finishing the game with 29. The game went to overtime and unfortunately Brossoit did not make the last save of the game.
2013-14
Wednesday night game hosting the Regina Pats. It did not go well. The Oil Kings were shutout and the Pats scored more than a handful of goals. We will never mention this game again.
