A literal handful of games have been played on this date in Oil Kings history. The first ever game at Rogers Place is the only game that netted a positive result. Let's recollect!
2008-09

Game three of the young season was the first road game for the Oil Kings. After defeating the Hitmen at Rexall Place, the rematch occurred in the Scotiabank Saddledome on a Wednesday night. The Hitmen lead 2-0 after the opening period, a lead that proved insurmountable.
Despite being outshot by a 2-1 margin in the second period, Brett Breitkreuz put up the only tally in frame. Dalyn Flette made 31 saves in the losing effort.
2010-11

Home/season opener hosting the Red Deer Rebels in front of 6,320 fans at Rexall Place. In net for the Rebels was Darcy Kuemper who finished the year as the WHL and CHL goalie of the year. A mister Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the eventual game winning goal for Red Deer at the 8:52 mark of the first period. Sure this is an Oil Kings fan site but sometimes you just need to take a moment to appreciate some of the names that came through this league for the opponents.
Michael St. Croix broke the shutout bid at the 5:47 mark of the third period. Cam Lanigan made 26 saves in the loss.
2016-17

The inaugural home opener at Rogers Place for the Oil Kings needed a shootout to settle the winner. All six regulation goals were scored in the second period, all three for Edmonton were on the powerplay. In order, the goals were scored by Trey Fix-Wolansky, Lane Bauer and Tyler Robertson also scored for the Oil Kings. Bauer also scored the winner in the shootout.
Patrick Dea got the win making 24 saves. Dea only faced four shots in the third period but managed to stay sharp to make two literal game savings stop in overtime.
2017-18

A promising start to the Oil Kings home schedule finished with a poor result. A powerplay goal by Trey Fix-Wolansky and 5x5 goal by Kobe Mohr propelled the Oil Kings to 2-0 lead a mere 4:26 into the game in a period in which the Oil Kings only had 5 shots. Ty Gerla reestablished a 2-goal midway through the second period but the next four goals belonged to Red Deer.
To give Edmonton goalie Travis Child the benefit of the doubt, three of the five Rebels goals were scored while they were on the powerplay plus one into an empty net. Child finished with 27 saves.
2022-23

The first road game of the season was an unsuccessful jaunt down to Red Deer. The Oil Kings would come back from being down 2-0 thanks to goals by Shea Van Olm and Logan Dowhaniuk. The teams swapped goals again in the second with Rhett Melynk once again tying the game for Edmonton.
Although not selected a "star" of the game, Oil Kings netminder Kolby Hay made 33 saves. For context, Edmonton only had 25 shots.
