Roil Recollection: Oil Kings History on September 22nd

On this Roil Recollection we go all the way back to the first ever road game in franchise history. The Oil Kings have played a total of four times on this calendar date and have won each time! Let's recollect!

2007-08

The Kootenay Ice hosted the Oil Kings inaugural road game and were gracious hosts allowing Craig Callum, Brenden Dowd and Karey Pieper to all score in the opening period. Tomas Vincour, who finished with two goals on the night, made it 4-0 in the second period before the Ice pumped 20 shots at the Oil Kings net bringing the score to 4-3. Tyler Hlookoff scored on the powerplay in the third, Edmonton's fourth powerplay goal of the game.

Alex Archibald made 35 saves in the win. Matthew Swaby, Cameron Cepak and Brent Raedeke each had two assists.

2018-19

The short drive down the QE2 to Red Deer ended with the Oil Kings sweeping the home-and-home season opening series. The newest New York Ranger Trey Fix-Wolansky opened the scoring on this night and assisted on the next two Oil Kings goals. Somehow his now Rangers teammate Matthew Robertson was named the "first star" of the game. Oil Kings fans are hopeful he sees more both see plenty of time in the Big Apple.

Vince Loschiavo, David Kope and Scott Atkinson were the other goal scorers for the Club. Dylan Myskiw collected 28 saves earning himself the win and "third star" of the game.

2019-20

The inverse of the previous season, this game was played in Edmonton after their opener in Red Deer the night before. The result was the same, a season opening sweep of the Rebels! This was a penalty filled affair that saw the powerplays combine to go 0-15.

Riley Sawchuk and Jesse Seppala staked the Oil Kings to a 2-0 lead. 1:16 after Red Deer hit the scoresheet Liam Keeler acted as the momentum killer restoring the 2-goal lead. Sawchuk collected his second goal of the game into an empty net while shorthanded. Todd Scott made 20 saves in the victory.

2023-24

Marshall Finnie scored at the 6:42 mark of the first period to start the Oil Kings road/slash season opener on the right foot. Aidan Litke scored his first of two goals at the 4:46 mark of the second period to restore the one goal lead. Kian Bell scored the eventual game winner on the powerplay assisted by Litke.

Kolby Hay earned the win making 36 saves. Rookie Adam Jecho got his first career point with an assist.
