Roil Recollection: Oil Kings History on October 5th

The modern day history of October 5th for the Oil Kings starts with a couple wins. Then it took a heroic 39-save performance to get the team back into the win column. Let's recollect!

2007-08

A ho-hum game entered the third period tied at one. Seven goals later, the Oil Kings collected the 5-4 victory at home versus the Prince Albert Raiders. Edmonton had built up a 4-2 but required a Karey Pieper powerplay goal to seal the deal. Alex Archibald made 21 saves for the win.

2011-12

The Oil Kings could not find the back of the net until the 13:28 mark of the third period when T.J. Foster bulged the twine on the powerplay. Laurent Brossoit made two saves in overtime and stopped both shooters in the shootout to help Edmonton send the Rexall Place faithful home happy on a Wednesday night!

2013-14

The first road date on this day in history is an unsuccessful voyage to Saskatoon. It commenced well enough as Brett Pollock, Mitchell Moroz and Reid Petryk staked the Oil Kings to a 3-0 opening period lead. It was 3-2 entering the third period but goaltender Tristan Jarry allowed three goals on seven shots.

2014-15

48 seconds into the second period Lane Bauer tied the game at one for the Oil Kings. The Kamloops Blazers would score the next five(5!) goals in that stanza. Patrick Dea came in to play goalie for the third period for Edmonton.

2018-19

Trailing the Kootenay Ice 4-2 in the third period, the Oil Kings did well to earn themselves a point. Andrei Pavlenko scored midway through the frame then Quinn Benjafield scored with five (5!) seconds left to send the game into overtime. Boston Bilous made 7 of his 29 saves in overtime but alas it was not meant to be on this night in B.C..

2019-20

A trip out to Brandon netted the Oil Kings two points in large point due to their netminder. Todd Scott faced 40 shots on the night and was 1:46 away from collecting a shutout. That stands as an extra neat factoid today as fast forwarding to last night in Brandon, the Oil Kings and their goalie Parker Snell did collect the shutout against the Wheat Kings!

2024-25

The Regina Pats opened the scoring but only held the lead for 20 seconds before Blake Fiddler tied the game quieting down their home town fans. The teams would swap goals in the third period as the game went six rounds deep in the shootout before the Pats pulled out the victory. Alex Worthington finished with 28 saves.
