Roil Recollection: Oil Kings History on October 4th

The Edmonton Oil Kings have a losing record on this date in their modern day history but there is a but! When the Oil Kings have won, it tends to be my seven (7!) or more! Neat factoid, tonight's opponent is the same opponent as it was a year ago today. Let's recollect.

2009-10

Mark Pysyk, Drew Nichol, Travis Ewanyk all got into fights. Ewanyk, Michael Burns and Brent Raedeke all scored goals. Torrie Jung made 33 saves. The number three was a common theme for the Oil Kings on this Sunday afternoon in Medicine Hat but the fourth goal on the fourth attempt of the shootout won the game for the Tigers.

2012-13

This Thursday night in Edmonton was a classic example of the score clock (the important clock) not matching what the shot clock read. The Oil Kings outshot the Raiders 34-21, lost 4-1. T.J. Foster scored the lone Oil Kings tally. Tristan Jarry made 20 saves.

2013-14

Curtis Lazar with a hat-trick and an assist paced the Oil Kings to a tromp through Prince Albert. Riley Kieser also popped a pair on a night Edmonton scored 9! Cody Corbett, Henrik Samuelsson, Luke Bertolucci, Mitchell Moroz, Brett Pollock and Edgars Kulka all had multipoint nights.

2015-16

Swift Current had a 2-0 lead midway through the second period of a Sunday afternoon in Edmonton. The Oil Kings came back during regulation time with Brett Pollock winning the game in overtime. From the second period forward, Edmonton outshot the Broncos 43-20 so the victory was earned and deserved! Alec Dillon made 28 saves to collect the win.

2019-20

You see a 7-0 score and you think to yourself it was a total blowout. This is not an example of that. Oil Kings goaltender Sebastian Cossa needed to make 40 saves to earn the shutout. All 7 Oil Kings goals were scored even strength and by different skaters. Josh Williams led the way with a goal and two assists.

2023-24

This Wednesday night game in Saskatoon did not tally a goal or a penalty in the opening period. Adam Jecho opened the scoring for the Oil Kings in the second period then the team ran into penalty trouble. Three penalties, three Blades goals. Rilen Kovacevic and Aidan Litke brought Edmonton back to even but on a night where the Club was almost doubled on the shot clock, the Blades collected the win. Logan Cunningham made 32 saves in the loss.

2024-25

The Brandon Wheat Kings opened the scoring 23 seconds into the second period. It was 2-0 Brandon when Gavin Hodnett put the Oil Kings on the board. Alex Worthington finished with 25 saves in the loss.
