Roil Recollection: Oil Kings History on October 11

We finally get to go to Rogers Place again! This day features a game that could be called a goalapalooza and another that could be deemed a fightapalooza. The first three games on this date were wins. Let's recollect!

2010-11 Thanksgiving Day

This game was stuffed with goals, so stuffed in fact that it took until the final second of overtime to determine the winner. The Oil Kings were down 6-3 entering the third period. Dylan Wruck's second goal of the game was the overtime winner. Travis Ewanyk had a hat-trick of goals, Michael St. Croix had a hat-trick of assists.

2011-12

Mitchell Moroz, T.J. Foster, Micheal St. Croix and Rhett Rachinski staked the Oil Kings to a 4-0 lead. Laurent Brossoit's shutout bid ended at the 2:16 mark of the third. The game degenerated into a fight fest from the 12:24 mark of the final frame to the final whistle. Ashton Sautner, Jordan Peddle, Dylan Wruck, Tristan Sieben and Kristians Pelss all got into scraps. The Oil Kings penalty killing unit went a perfect 11-for-11!

2013-14

The Spokane Chiefs paid a visit to Edmonton and quickly opened the scoring. It was the only one of their total 17 shots that snuck past Tristan Jarry. All four Oil Kings goals came in the third period with Curtis Lazar notching two of them.

2015-16

A visit to Regina started well enough for the Oil Kings as Andrew Koep scored 1:53 into the second period to make it 3-1. Wetaskawin's Lane Zablocki was in on the next three goals, too bad he played for the Pats. Alec Dillon finished with 30 saves in the loss.

2016-17

A Tuesday night in Edmonton in 2016 probably did not have tacos like the upcoming Tuesday game later this month at Rogers Place. On this night nearly a decade ago there were also no Oil Kings goals as the Vancouver Giants scored the only two goals of the game. Factoring in that the Oil Kings outshot the Giants 13-2 in the opening stanza, the result does not seem fair. Liam Hughes with the hard luck loss.

2017-18

The Brandon Wheat Kings scored the first three goals on this Wednesday in Edmonton. Ethan Cap and Matthew Robertson brought the Oil Kings to within one but that was as close as the Club got. Josh Dechaine with 29 saves in the loss.

2022-23

A Tuesday night in Portland ended in a 5-2 loss which according to the shot clock was a flattering result. The Winterhawks outshot the Oil Kings 28-8 over the final two periods driving up Kolby Hay's save total to 38. Carson Golder and Marshall Finnie potted the Edmonton goals.

2023-24

This Wednesday game falls under the category of "games you do not talk about".
