Roil Recollection: Oil Kings History on October 10th

Special note about this day in Oil Kings history, in 2014 Griffin Reinhart played his first NHL game for the New York Islanders. The defenceman finished with 111 points in 209 regular season games in Edmonton. Reinhart added 28 points in 57 playoff appearances.

The Oil Kings have not played a game on this calendar date since the '18-19 season. Goals have come in clusters for the team with one example being a hat-trick of powerplay goals in less than three minutes. Overall the Club has won three of the five games they have played on this date. Let's recollect!

2008-09

Brandon Lockerby played 151 WHL games. This game included his one and only shorthanded goal. The starting goaltender for the visiting Saskatoon Blades Braden Holtby went on to have a solid NHL career. Blades won this game.

2009-10

The final four goals of this game in Swift Current all belonged to Edmonton. Scoring two goals into an empty net has to be a rare event right? Cam Lanigan with 24 saves for the victory. This was one of only two career games of which Cameron Maclise had multiple points. Tomas Vincour scored two goals in the game, something he would do 9 times during his 147 game career with Edmonton.

2012-13

If you look at the shots on goal and powerplay opportunties, you would think Medicine Hat won the game. Edmonton jumped out to a 4-0 lead then Laurent Brossoit held things together to earn the Club a 4-2 win. Cole Benson assisted the opening goal scored by Brett Pollock and Oil Kings fourth goal scored by Griffin Reinhart.

2015-16

Three powerplay goals in 2:58 during the second period was the Oil Kings offense until the shootout. Colton Kehler was the only player to score in the shootout awarding Edmonton the extra point over the Brandon Wheat Kings. Brandon had outshot Edmonton 46-20. Patrick Dea with 43 saves.

2018-19

A Wednesday night in Portland to forget this was. Mention anymore we will not. It was so bad that the Oil Kings have not played on a game on this calendar date since! (Okay that's a coincidence...probably).
