On November 19th 2023, the Montreal Alouettes pulled off the unthinkable in defeating the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 110th Grey Cup at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario.
Winnipeg came into the game as heavy favourites, with this being their fourth trip to the Grey Cup in 4 years. The game was filled with excitement as Cody Fajardo and the Als trailed Zach Collaros and the Bombers until the second half of the game. The fourth quarter ended up being a back-and-forth battle that depended on classic, Canadian 3-down football in the hands of Fajardo and company in the final minutes. After a massive, successful third down play that launched Montreal to the Winnipeg Red Zone, Fajardo threw a touchdown with 11 seconds left that would all but seal the deal. With a high kick and a recovery, Montreal had finally won the Grey Cup for the first time in 13 years by a score of 28-24. Social media blew up after the massive upset:
Even CFL players and media got in on the celebration on X, sharing their thoughts, views and sentiments with social media users:
The game was nothing short of exciting, and Montreal never gave up despite some adversity early in the game. This was one of the most exciting Grey Cup games that we've ever seen, and others agree:
Alouettes podcasters were sure to chirp after their team won the season:
Overall, the 110th Grey Cup was one of the best CFL Championship games in recent years. While we feel for our Winnipeg Blue Bomber fans and friends, tonight we'll celebrate the Montreal Alouettes winning it all.
