Humpday Hopes: Attendance at two Edmonton Football Games, More Music Themes

Hump day, the presumed middle of the week for folks. The point of the week the water cooler chat has dried up and the weekend, while in focus, is still too far away. So let's talk about some hopes heading into the weekend.

Edmonton vs Edmonton in CJFL clash this Saturday

Previously on Shotgun Sports, I admitted I attended my first CJFL on August 8 (click here if interested). After their week one win the Huskies were placed into the CJFL Top Ten rankings. The Club proved worthy of that honour by defeating the Winnipeg Rifles 38-28. On the other side of Edmonton, after a lopsided loss in their season opener, the Edmonton Wildcats were staring at a date with the Champion Hilltops in Saskatoon, a team they had not beat in over a decade. The Wildcats won!!

The Edmonton Huskies will host the Edmonton Wildcats this Saturday night at the Jasper Place Bowl (aka JP Bowl) at 7PM. The Wildcats play their home games out of Emerald Hills in Sherwood Park. Hoping to see a packed JP Bowl as there was a fair share of atmosphere at JP Bowl when the Calgary Colts visited, this could be electric!

Commonwealth Stadium Friday Night

Attendance is always a hot button topic surrounding the Edmonton Elks. The glass half full fans knew coming out of the Saskatchewan game and going into a Toronto matchup that attendance questions would be raised again (apparently Roughrider fans don't raise attendance in other stadiums). Hence the post from John Hodge to start this section. I hope the attendance number for the Winnipeg game this Friday keeps the positive momentum going for the Club. I know one of the many reasons people stopped going to games was the in-game presentation but...

The Dark Roast Timbit

At the last Elks home game during the Timbit Shuffle, the "Dark Roast Timbit" set the CFL record for most consecutive wins! What a ridiculous statement to type but I hope the Dark Roast Timbit keeps winning!

When Ryder from Play 107 (at the time) was announced in 2023 as the replacement in-game host, Elks fans were ready for the gameday presentation of the Club to overgo an overhaul. There have been a fair share of misses with the everchanging in-game experience the past couple seasons but the key is that there have been changes. The plot has not been lost, the gameday antics during television timeouts have become much better, kickstarted of course by Elks owner Larry Thompson (rest in peace) driving through the opponents bench. Will the Dark Roast Timbit win again this upcoming Friday when the Elks host the Bombers? (Tickets)

Music Theme Nights, More Please

If there is the existence of "Country Night", it suggests there may also be the existence of a "hair band night", "Soul'd Out night", or a "Pop Rocks night". Why can't we have them all? The prerequisite to a music theme night is the ability for your crowd to play dress up because much like drawing up a schedule, you will never impress everyone. Friday at Commonwealth you will see more a lot more cowboy hats than usual thanks to it being "Country Night". Mission accomplished.

The suggestion here is not more specific artist nights, sorry Taylor Swift fans. A 60's, 70's, or 80's night can mean a lot of things, for me it means music from that era and the ability to cosplay. What do you think?
