The following insight from the Canadian Junior Football Leage (CJFL) website is all this football fan knew heading into last nights game:

"Reigning Prairie Conference Rookie of the Year, quarterback Wesley Neitz has several dangerous weapons at his disposal including Meshach Imanzenobe, Dusty Campbell, Ty Holmes and Gavrie Shishkin while Chris Katula and Howells Boateng will come out of the backfield.."

After a successful onside kick to start the game, it was #13 Wyatt Matson who was the starting QB for the Huskies. #7 Andy Lina started at running back helping the team move downfield enough to open the scoring with a field goal.

First defensive possession was a convincing 2-and-out highlighted by a Mike Hyacintho sack. A blocked punt then gave Calgary the ball in field goal position. On 3rd and 2, the Huskies defence held strong giving the ball back to their offense.

A roughing the punter penalty followed by a roughing the kicker penalty led to the Colts tying the game at six with 3ish minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter.

"Short yardage QB" #80 Dusty Campbell keeps a drive alive on a third down gamble at midfield. Same drive, 3rd and 3, Matson goes for 32. Campbell then caps off the drive with a trot into the end zone. 13-6 Huskies with 13:15 to go in the game.

DB Owen MacNeil jumps a route, interception return to the 5 yard line. Running back Ethan Grannum, wearing #3 not #16 per the program, opens up a can of whoop ass and opens the lead up to 20-6.

Another Huskies INT, another 3rd down gamble, another 30 yard play. Campbell takes it into the house and its 27-6.

Teaching boys to become men

At this point in the game, this fan appreciated hearing various Huskies coaches enforcing the right way to play. Teaching moments were aplenty as overhyped youngsters starting taking unnecessary penalties. "Shut up and just play" was the one sentence overheard that can be typed without editing.

CONCESSIONS

Having never been to Jasper Place Bowl, the rumor was there were no concessions. Pictures of both the food and adult beverage stands are above. "Section O" (he will be the guest on the upcoming edition of "The Elks Call" at 7:30pm on Wednesday) mentioned the concession stands are a relatively recent addition which meant it was worth including in this write up. As a Celiac myself, it was nice to see gluten free options at both stands over and above popcorn and one choice of cooler.

The next two games for the Huskies are at home at the Jasper Place Bowl. Sunday August 16th at noon hosting Winnipeg then Saturday August 22nd at 7pm versus the Edmonton Wildcats. For only $32 (that's a ticket, a Shiddy's Slamonade and Reese Peanut Butter Cups), you have yourself an entertaining night out. Lesson from this game though, bring bug spray for when the sun goes down and the mosquitos come out.

THE HUSKIE TAILGATE IS THE PLACE TO BE!!

Thanks to the efforts of Greg Patterson & Mike Kapalka and Greg's wife Sharon the Huskie tent at the Double E tailgate is the hottest place to be. At the last game they completely 'sold out' of burgers and hotdogs by donation. They already have even bigger and better ideas in mind on how to improve. Last game they were selected by the public as best burgers around, and have tentatively accepted a "taco challenge" from another tailgate group. IF you are attending the game (Argos vs Elks on Saturday August 15th at 1PM) stop by! We are booth #59 just east of the stage.
