Edmonton Sports, You Make Me Want A Drink

Being a sports fan is hard. Sure sports fandom is not considered physical labour but the emotional toll can make a fan beeline to the fridge for a drink. No one in Edmonton is crying into their beer but sports fans are definitely ingesting a few.

FIRST ROUND

The Edmonton Oilers just fired their sixth head coach in the past 12 years. Another fall guy for a general manager whose pursuit for the Stanley Cup includes a dubious chapter in Chicago Blackhawks history and not enough salary cap to acquire the elusive "number one goaltender" or tinker with the defense to make the various "1 B" goaltenders look like a "1 A".

SECOND ROUND

The Edmonton Oil Kings entered last season considered a favourite to win the Western Hockey League. The Oil Kings entered the WHL playoff holding on to favourite status to win it all. Ousted in the first damned round!

The dang BCHL Brooks Bandits! First they swept the Spruce Grove Saints, although with recent NAIT Ooks commit goaltender Ryan De Kok suspended the first three games, this was not much of a surprise. The Sherwood Park Crusaders headed home for Game 6 up 3-2 in their series against the Bandits to ultimately lose the series, that hurt like hell.

THIRD ROUND

The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League started year eight with a heartbreaking loss. The Stingers play game two this Saturday May 16th at their home in the Edmonton Expo Centre likely once again without their best player Nick Hornsby. The difficult part of that is last years best player left via free agency and the original team MVP who left to play for the Los Angeles Clippers Xavier Moon has returned to the league but not Edmonton.

FOURTH ROUND

The Edmonton Elks, who have been terrible this decade thus far, enter the 2026 season with fans distracted by all the upcoming changes scheduled for the 2027 season.

If you are going to a game this season, sit at the 55 yard line because next year that will not be option as the league moves to a 100 yard field instead of 110 yards.

Love watching returns after a missed field goal? Sucks to be you, next season the goalposts move to the back of the end zone so that kick that goes wide right, has no chance to be returned.

NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE

The article reads as a rambling drunk venting by design. If you happen to be going out for a few drinks to vent about your sports teams please ensure you have a safe method of getting back home. Cheers!
