Roil Recollection: Oil Kings History on November 11

"In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields
"

Now for your regularly scheduled Oil Kings recollection.

2011-12

Kristans Pelss opened the scoring on the powerplay for the Oil Kings in Kelowna. Edmonton ended up with more fighting majors (Mitchell Moroz and Klarc Wilson) than goals. Kelowna won the game in overtime.

2019-20

It took over a decade before the Oil Kings hosted a Rememberance Day game. Trailing 2-0 entering the final period, Edmonton outshot Tri-City 24-3 trying to equalize the score, which as the clock wound down became more about breaking the goose egg. Nope. The Americans held on.

2022-23

Down 3-0, goals by Carter Kowalyk and Mason Finley brought the Oil Kings to within one of the Prince Albert Raiders. It is as close as the Club got. Kolby Hay finished with 23 saves in the loss.

2023-24

You know those games you have scrubbed from your memory. This was one of them. Accursed Hitmen!

Maybe today, for the first time in Oil Kings modern history, they will collect a win! For all the firepower the Edmonton offensive has displayed this season, it is Blazers player JP Hurlbut that sits atop the leaderboard for points. Both Edmonton goalies appear on separate top five goaltending categories so whether it is Ethan Simcoe or Parker Snell, there is faith they will be up to the task.
