Number 10 for the Edmonton Oil Kings could be worn by the same player for the next few years (or until the NCAA swoops him away) if reality meets expectation. This numbers history contains a captaincy and a NHL player. Let's recollect!
2007-08 & 2008-09
And we would call him Captain Lee but we would never see the C on his chest! Calgarian Jeff Lee played the inaugural two seasons of modern day Oil Kings history wearing the Captain C in year two for the Club's road games.
2009-10
Ahead of the inaugural season, Devin Balness was one of the final cuts being reassigned to his Midget AAA team. He would play one game in '08-09 before cracking the lineup this season. He collected 8 points in 42 games played.
2010-11 & 2011-12
Josh Lazowski had two successful years with the Spruce Grove Saints, then of the AJHL, prior to becoming an Oil King. Lazowski put up 28 points in 32 games in '10-11 but did not find that same success to start the '11-12 season. He ended up back in Spruce Grove to finish the season and did well enough he earned himself a spot on the NAIT Ooks.
2011-12 through 2013-14

Playing his first game on January 12th, 2012, Henrik Samuelsson had himself 10 points before the calendar turned to February. Samuelsson finished the season with 23 points in 28 games, it was the only season he averaged under a point per game. Henrik still holds franchise records for most career playoff assists (33) and points (56). He wore the "A" on his jersey in '13-14. Henrik got into his first NHL game on February 26th, 2015 for the Phoenix Coyotes.
2014-15 through 2017-18

Drayton Valley's Tyson Gruninger played 129 total games spread through 4 seasons never finding steady playing time. The '17-18 season Gruninger went down to the AJHL where this author rooted against him as he roughed up the Sherwood Park Crusaders as a member of the Spruce Grove Saints, only to heartily root for him when he was traded to "the Park".
2017-18
The third round pick of the Oil KIngs in the 2017 draft, Raphael Pelletier played in 5 games. He was traded to the Swift Current Broncos in September 2019.
2018-19 & 2019-20

Rookie of the year award winner Vladimir Alistrov evaded the sophomore jinx. Alistrov maintained a 0.61 points per game regular season average and had 5 assists in the playoffs. The import player moved to the KHL for the 20-21 season and beyond.
2021-22
Jacob Boucher posted 20 points in 30 games for the Oil Kings. Boucher was traded at the trade deadline to Vancouver.
2022-23 & 2023-24
Battleford, Saskatchewan's Treycen Wuttenee played parts of two season combining for 4 points in 41 games played. Wuttenee has played the last two season in the SJHL.
2024-25

5 weeks after his 16th birthday, Kayden Stroeder dressed for his first WHL playoff game. The 8 points he collected in his age 15 season are a modern day Oil Kings record. The weight of expectation on this youngster is real and it's heavy.
